I recently moved to MA from NY. I registered the automobile here in MA and got my new license plates, registration certificate, and a sticker. My questions:

The registration in NY is a small-scale yellow slice of newspaper that fits in your wallet without folding. The registration I got at the RMV was an eight.5x11 piece of paper. Is that what yous use every bit proof of registration? Do you guys just go on the registration in the automobile or exercise you lot fold it up a bunch of times and keep information technology in your wallet?

In NY, we have 2 stickers on the left side of our windshield. The inspection and the registration sticker. I did not go a registration sticker to affix to the windshield. Does MA non have that?

The sticker I got goes over the "engagement" portion of the license plate. Do I put the sticker on the front plate or the dorsum one?

Thank y'all.

$125 for the registration switch from NY to MA and I think it was another $100 for my Driver'south License but tin't recall the license fee.

Not really sure what you hateful past Inusrance. I didn't have to do anything with that.

I switched my Commuter License as presently every bit I had fourth dimension to exercise it. I waited for my NY registration to come within a calendar month of expiration to maximize the cost savings.

Yous only need to keep the top portion (Cert of registration) with you or in your car. Not the entire form.

The dorsum. There isn't one for the forepart.

It is mandatory in Massachusetts to have insurance on your car, and if things are the same as when I lived in that location, you must take proof of insurance in your car. Since you were able to register the car, you must take insurance, and so you're covered. Don't forget to take your machine inspected, the sooner the ameliorate. Information technology volition expire in your birth month, but you need to get inspection done within seven CALENDAR days (not business days) of registration. They Volition stop you and fine you for this, and yeah, it is a moving violation, so your machine insurance will go up. Good luck, welcome to MA

Don't forget to put the MA sticker on the Correct side of the windshield, not the left.

Highway237-Re insurance, they more often than not crave proof of it before they register the car. If the electric current insurer does business organisation in Mass., ask for a quote to change information technology (I saved a ton when I switched). The insurance company tin fill out RMV-1 grade and you lot have it to a branch. There'south 1 in Watertown. 50 for two yrs registration, 75 for a title fee, 100 to modify license. You need to get it inspected pretty quickly as was mentioned. You as well need to fill out a short form (529???) maxim you lot already paid sales tax on the machine when you beginning bought information technology in NYS, so y'all're exempt here.

Later in 2011 you'll become an excise revenue enhancement bill from the town where information technology's registered. If y'all motility to a different town, notify RMV and the towns you're moving from and to.

Default Regarding MA plates--Of import!!

OHhhh, Holden'southward mention of excise tax reminds me--if for Whatever reason you have to unregister your automobile, recall to plough in your PLATES and become a RECEIPT from the registry. This is very important, as this receipt will be your ONLY proof that you turned your plates in. Your urban center or town will keep to charge you excise revenue enhancement. Do you know what excise revenue enhancement is?? (I got this directly from the registry when I left Massachusetts for good a decade ago). Excise Tax is an annual tax for the provilige of registration. At present y'all know.
